Selecting Personal Development And Self Help Books

Since the biblical days of Solomon helping to write the Book of Proverbs, significant strides have been made in personal development, or simply, self-enrichment.  So many books have been written, advice has been handed down, and centuries of lore have been passed around in order to promote both physical and psychological well-being.  As time evolves, it appears that we are growing wiser, putting forth newer forms of old writings, and formulating new theories based on current activities in society. This has made finding the right books or videos somewhat of a confusing task when people seek self help.  To shed some light on what books to turn to, we offer some basic tips on personal development and self help today, and what you can look for when seeking out literature to assist in personal growth.

Finding A Reputable Author

It would be quite helpful to find an author that has experience in their given field and a relevant educational foundation to back any personal development knowledge they pass on.  Since anyone can write a book based on their own experience, time-tested results should be the first basis of trust when shopping for a new self help book to lean on.

Cross-Referencing Facts

A good personal development writer will include facts and findings of other known psychologists, psychoanalysts, and other reputed sources that build a factual basis for any self help tips given.  An author that leans on their own understanding cannot possibly write an accurate personal development book or novel as one person’s experiences cannot possible assist mass audiences.

Advice That Is Sensible

Ever read a self help book and discover tips that seem outlandish? If the advice given seems unclear, skewed or rehashed, it would best suit you to walk away.  However, if some of the personal development tips given appear new, scientifically-based and make sense to the layman, you should proceed with taken the written steps.  Time-tested advice or tips seems to always work the best.
Knowing the source of authorship and verifying any related mitigating evidence that the author uses to impose their tips on your situation will assist you, before walking out of the book store, in finding the most practical personal development books relevant to your situation and self help needs.
